The Xiaomi Mi M365 has managed to perfect the build of an accessible and affordable e-scooter. The only caveat here is that they’re selling it as a mid-range model.

Made by globally-trusted brand Xiaomi of smartphone fame, the Mi M365 is part of the mid-tier entries within their electric scooter line. Fairly enough, this model performs well and is far from lacking and disappointing. But, I would be lying if I tell you that it still needs some small tweaks of improvement.

To know more about the Xiaomi Mi M365 and if it’s the right e-scooter for you, read on.

Xiaomi Mi M365 E-Scooter: The Lowdown

Much like any other entry-level e-scooter, the Xiaomi Mi M365 comes with a 250W motor powered by a 180 Wh battery. This combination gives off an undefined climbing range, a 15.5 mph maximum speed, and an 18.6 mi mileage per single charge.

Weighing only 27.6 lbs, this scooter is relatively easy to carry around, especially that its neck easily folds over and locks in whenever needed. It also comes with 8.5” air-filled pneumatic tyres, five-hour charge times, and an efficient set of a braking system.

Undoubtedly, you get what you pay for with this scooter. Thanks to its aesthetics, functionality, and convenience that make up for what it’s lacking. It competes and places itself on the top spot within its tier, making it a remarkable engineering work.

Xiaomi Mi M365 Pros

  • Amazingly generous 1-year warranty
  • Great range for scooter tier
  • Good speed for scooter tier
  • Cost-effective and affordable for its price vis-à-vis specs
  • It fully folds and locks in

Xiaomi Mi M365 Cons

  • A bit too heavy for most people (27.6 lbs)
  • There’s still no suspension
  • It’s not that good for off-road treks
  • Despite its power, it’s still not as water-resistant
  • Even with this much power, its weight limit is still 100kg

Performance Overview

This surprising entry off of Xiaomi’s electric scooter line is a stunner. Being a mid-tier scooter that packs a punch, the Mi M365 comes in a strong collapsible frame with fantastic range, great speed, astounding acceleration, and a brilliant braking system.

Do note that this electric scooter has all the typical Xiaomi inclusions down pat, such as:

  • smartphone app accessibility
  • cruise control
  • regenerative electric brakes
  • a pedestrian mode (for easy pushing)
  • three riding modes (eco, drive, and sport)
  • air-filled, pneumatic tyres.

Circling back to regenerative electric brakes, this system allows for the kinetic energy made by its tyres to serve as the fuel that is sent back to the battery once the brakes are used.

As far as aesthetics go, it still pretty much got the same e-scooter looks that are eminent within the Xiaomi lineup. It only seems a bit more powerful that’s capable of powering through rougher roads at faster speeds and better distances.

The only letdown here is the weight capacity cap at 100 kg, which is weird for an electric scooter this powerful. Another thing to note would be how small the reflectors and lights included with it go, especially that it’s more dangerous to power through terrain with this hot rod of an e-scooter with little to no vision.

If you’re wondering how much it costs, it asks for £360 ($500), which is not that bad for the convenience and comfort it gives. In comparison to other electric scooters of the range, the price is already a steal, but with a few caveats.

With all these in mind, it’s up to you to decide which scooter you should get. But for now, let’s get in-depth with the Xiaomi Mi M365.

Power and Performance

The Xiaomi Mi M365 comes with a powerful 280 Wh battery that can be charged efficiently from zero to full in just five hours. This battery can take you up to approximately 30 km (18.6 mi) far on a single charge, while it can also propel you to about 25 kph (15.5 mph) fast.

Comparatively speaking, this scooter’s battery level is quite lauded for its fast charging and the amount of power it can put out.

Construction

Made from a lightweight aluminium alloy frame, the Mi M365 weight clocks in at about 12.5 kilograms (27.6 lbs), making it not that friendly of a scooter to carry around. It is also known to have weights of up to 100 kilograms (220 lbs), which is a pretty disappointing parallel to the power it bestows.

Building the electric scooter is just as easy as how you would its Xiaomi siblings. All it takes is to attach its handlebars on the steerer tube with six bolts and the use of the T-wrench provided, and you’re done. All you have to do now is prop up the steerer tube to make sure it clicks, and you’re good to go.

It’s also amazing to note how this e-scooter integrates its fast charger from within the scooter’s body. All you need is to attach the appropriate power adapter, so you can easily plug it into any power socket or outlet.

Acceleration

It features a 250W motor paired with a 280 Wh battery. This pairing exudes power that’s supreme of a mid-tier electric scooter, as acceleration feels smooth and top speeds are easier to achieve.

If anything, it makes this scooter a perfect option for drag races or even to be used as a sleeper scooter. This also means that the top speed of 15.5 mph can easily be hit in only a matter of seconds.

Top Speed

When fully charged and in Sports mode, the Xiaomi Mi M365 is known to hit at about 15.5 mph (25 kph).

Do note, however, that the road conditions, rider and gear weight, and weather conditions usually affect the numbers. So, the results would vary for everyone.

Battery and Range

This scooter’s Wh 280 Wh Li-ion battery is powerful enough to satiate its consumers, especially that it can go great numbers in terms of top speed and max range in a single charge.

There are also several riding modes available (Eco and Standard). And apparently, some of them tend to consume most of their battery life power quickly.

When it comes to its braking system, with the regenerative electric rear braking installed, it’s not so shocking to see how this electric scooter gets by with not much charging. Still, it’s usually depleted at around three hours when voraciously used at maximum settings.

Speaking of charging, using the charger would only ask roughly five hours for you to take it from zero to full. Case in point, the size and sheer power of its battery only requires 2.5 charges a week in continuous use --- which we definitely think is not that bad.

Motor Configuration

This mid-tier hot rod comes with a 250W motor that fixates power on the back, making it a rear-wheel drive electric scooter as well.

Brake System

The brake system of the Xiaomi Mi M365 sports a regenerative Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) that’s common to most recent Xiaomi releases. The KERS brake system sits on the rear, as activating it puts a part of the kinetic energy produced to be turned into fuel sent to the battery to give it extra juice.

This offers a soft and mellow way to stop. So, if you’re looking for a quick halt, opt for the drum brake on the front instead.

Suspension

There are no suspensions installed on the Xiaomi Mi M365. It’s pretty shocking, to be honest, especially that it delivers such a powerful performance.

But don’t fret. Its tyres mostly make up for its suspension since they’re pneumatic and air-filed to make sure that it takes up most of the shocks, humps, and bumps.

Ride Quality

There’s nothing bad about riding this electric scooter. Starting it up would require you to give it a 1.9 mph kick push, as its motor accelerates and takes over smoothly after that. The sport mode undeniably performs quite well, as a drag can be felt once you try to propel it to a whopping 15.5 mph.

If you feel like that’s a bit fast for your liking, you can always rely on the brakes instead. They work flawlessly with the regenerative electric rear brake going well hand in hand with that of the drum brake on the front.

Portability

This electric scooter’s weight is not the friendliest when needed to carry around as it weighs roughly 12.5 kilograms (27.6 lbs). This is probably why the pedestrian drive mode exists, with its rear wheel exerting roughly 1.9 mph of speed to help you push the scooter forward when needed.

Also, if you’re conserving the battery, you may opt to just drag the scooter backwards, with you holding the rear end up as you let the front wheel roll on the ground.

Cockpit

There is no LED display on the Xiaomi Mi M365 electric scooter, making it primarily reliant on the Xiaomi Home app and a whole lot of gut feel.

Lights

The lighting set up on the Xiaomi Mi M365 is the same as any standard Xiaomi electric scooter: a headlight and disc brake lights.

The lack of sidelights is compensated by great quality reflectors. On top of that, its rear light’s settings can be controlled with the app that comes with the electric scooter. What’s good about the lights provided here is that they’re pretty strong despite the size.

Tyres

The Xiaomi Mi M365 sports pneumatic rubber tyres that are standard and pretty run-of-the-mill.

These tyres, aside from the amazing road grip it provides, are the only source of suspension the scooter has. And it works well in absorbing all adverse impacts that may cause discomfort or disturbance to the rider.

Deck

The deck installed on the Mi M365 is more or less the same size as any Xiaomi release, offering ample space to stand on while also providing enough grip and traction for shoes to stay on.

Build Quality, Durability, and Support

Xiaomi makes sure to live up to its name and offers quite a feat of a vehicle for a very logical and accessible price point. The build quality alone from the IP54 water resistance of its frame, along with the inclusion of the regenerative electric braking system, makes up for most of what you pay for.

Surprisingly enough, the features do not end there. There’s also the app included and the ton of driving modes encoded onto the E-scooter’s system.

In terms of wear and tear, it seems quite far from breaking easy, especially that quality control is of utmost importance to companies with a name that’s as big as Xiaomi’s. There’s no reported easy breakage of the product so far, and it’s not like factory defects are circulating and plaguing this specific model’s existence.

Astounding as the product may be, the only problem is their support, which is not particularly all that responsive or understanding of consumer problems.

Maintenance

Its maintenance is mostly reliant on checking the tyres pressure from time to time and also ensuring that the batteries are well taken care of so as not to abuse its cells and easily deplete its charge cycles.

Water Resistance

Much like any Xiaomi electric scooter from the 2020 line, only the underneath of the chassis and a part of the controller is waterproof. But, everything else is IP54 rated, which means it can’t really power through the water.

It’s built to withstand some water passing through it, but it’s not something expected to take a full dip. Take care of its motor and battery to never go near the water, and you’d be good to go.

Known Issues

The scooter’s known issues are the small lights it provides and the reflectors that aren’t that strong enough to be safe, primarily since this e-scooter drives quite fast.

Another known problem is the scooter’s dwindling charging time, as some people have reported that it goes for up to eight to nine hours instead of the promised six.

Accessories

The sole accessory that comes with this e-scooter is a bell for added safety on the streets. It may take a bit of getting used to, but it’s ultimately safer and easier to execute in emergencies.

Aside from that, its free phone app allows you to duplicate the LED display and even have some extra controls for the scooter.

Xiaomi Mi M365 Review: Conclusion

If you’re looking for a well-rounded scooter and you can afford to cash out roughly $500, then this pick is definitely for you.

Overall, the Xiaomi Mi M365 electric scooter is perfect for people looking for some more thrill to their daily rides, and that they’re also looking to take this e-scooter to not only just strolls but also cruising at high speeds. It’s easily on any mid-tier scooter’s top 20 list, with Xiaomi offering a model that makes sure every penny is well spent and worth it.
